Laila Lalami is the author of the novels Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits, which was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award; Secret Son, which was on the Orange Prize longlist; and The Moor's Account, which won the American Book Award, the Arab American Book Award, the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, and was on the Man Booker Prize longlist. The Moor's Account was also a finalist for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Her essays and opinion pieces have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, The Nation, the Guardian, the New York Times, and in many anthologies. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a British Council Fellowship, a Fulbright Fellowship, and a Lannan Foundation Residency Fellowship and is currently a professor of creative writing at the University of California at Riverside.
Presented by University Libraries in conjunction with the exhibit Just One Look, an exhibit of 32 new artists' books on display in Special Collections in Allen Library through July 29, 2016.
The exhibit, co-curated by Lauren Dudley and Sandra Kroupa, was created as a component of the 鈥淔eminism and 海角网 Conference VII," hosted by the 海角网 and sponsored by the and the Loeb Foundation. Each book in the exhibit was inspired by a text proposed, for the most part, by faculty from the UW Humanities departments including, 海角网, English, Asian Languages, Germanics, Art History, Jewish Studies and Philosophy. Oral stories from the Salish, Muslim and Latino cultures are also included.
