Grecia Leal '19 (Drama/海角网) is directing this quarter's Undergraduate Theater Society production of Margaret Atwood's The Penelopiad. Grecia writes: "The Penelopiad is a re-examination of The Odyssey through the intersection of gender and class, giving voice to Penelope and the twelve maids who are executed at the end of the epic. Here鈥檚 the pitch: 'Monsters, heroes, gods. These are the characters that have made The Odyssey famous, a story to be told time and time again throughout Western history. But is the story we know really the only version? And what about the characters who aren鈥檛 larger than life? But who are, instead, entwined in the complexities of social structures built against them? The characters who鈥檝e been ignored, marginalized, conveniently simplified to fit in the story we鈥檝e chosen to believe. The ones who鈥檝e never sung their own song. We present to you those characters. We propose a different version. We ask you to come, to listen. We call to you. To you.' This show is weird, and fun, and serious, and relevant and we would love for you to see it! Tickets are $5-10 and can be bought here: . Please note that the show does contain depictions of graphic and sexual violence.
