Professors Deb Kamen and Sarah Levin-Richardson were recently awarded the 2017 Women’s Classical Caucus Barbara McManus Award for Best Article for their co-authored chapter, “Lusty Ladies in the ������ Imaginary.”  Their chapter, an expanded version of their prize-winning 2010 Society for Classical Studies paper of a similar name, offers a new model of ������ sexuality that takes into account women’s sexual agency. You can find their chapter in Ancient Sex: New Essays, co-edited by Professor Ruby Blondell of UW ������ and Professor Kirk Ormand of Oberlin College. 

This represents the second time in recent history that UW ������ faculty have won the Barbara McManus Award; Professor Sarah Stroup won the prize in 2006 for her article “Designing Women: Aristophanes’ Lysistrata and the ‘Hetairization’ of the Greek Wife.”
